A List For My Mum (The Queen of Lists)

FIRST OF ALL - isn't my mum beautiful! My nana is also in this picture, but she deserves a whole separate post so that will have to come another day. Obviously I think my mum is awesome, and hopefully the reasons I've listed below contain enough of her hilarity that it won't get too soppy. To be honest I know she'd cry whatever it said!

Reasons My Mum is Wonderful

  • She got me hooked on lists. She sleeps with a notebook next to her bed in case she remembers something she needs to do whilst she's asleep, and she writes absolutely everything down. This makes her the most organised person I know who also has an awful memory. I am following in her footsteps.
  • If I want her opinion on some online shopping like Topshop shoes or something, she definitely will have already seen it, she sometimes already owns it, and occasionally she has it in a variety of colours.
  • She often puts up with being the subject of the jokes my siblings and I make, even when we get to ultra annoying level. She likes to see us all be united on something.
  • She still gets me an advent calendar and gets us to leave a mince pie for Santa.
  • I bought some paper bunting to decorate the conservatory with for her birthday last year, not only has she left it up because she likes it so much, she went back to Tesco and bought more!
  • She won't let my dad put the washing and ironing in my room (even temporarily) while I'm at university because she wants it to continue to be just my room.
  • She came with me when I wanted to give blood for the first time, but I got taken off the register because I got ill from doing it. I was upset that I wouldn't be able to any more so she decided to carry on regularly giving blood in my place. So not only did she give birth to me, she now also gives blood for me!
  • Once I had set alarms for 5am so I could be in with a chance of getting a dress Alexa Chung had, but I slept through them and when I woke up it was sold out. She used her super secret shopping skills to find it elsewhere online and ordered it for me while I was at work!
  • She reads the books I pester her to when I want someone to talk about them to.
  • She didn't get angry when my sister and I got my brother drunk on Christmas eve.
  • She still likes to be woken up when I get home so she knows I am safe, whether 1am or 5am.
  • She really does always know best. I can guarantee I will ignore her advice many more times, believing that she does not see things as clearly as I do, that she is missing some vital part of my viewpoint, that she is too blinded by motherhood. And I will be proved wrong and she will have been right again, but she will not say so when I call her wailing that I have messed up again.
  • To prove the above point - a few years ago she told me to start a blog.
  • She gave me the best beauty advice I've ever had: look after your hair, teeth and skin and everything else will fall into place.
  • She still has an intense dislike of Ellie Goulding purely because she was a bit reluctant to be in a picture with my friends when I was at a club she was in...TWO YEARS AGO.
  • She bought me the notebook I wrote this post in.
  • This list consists of the little things I could think of with a tired 2 am brain, but there wouldn't be enough bullet points in the world for me to list all of the reasons she is wonderful.
